DJ Biography’s For EarsRadio

DJ Yosemite Sam

History in Radio – Believe it or not, it all began when I was 12 years old with a fascination of the TV show “WKRP in Cincinnati”. After an early morning visit to a local radio station, I was hooked. My first “real” job in high school was doing weekend shifts at the local country radio station, KGRT (K-GREAT)  in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I worked at the now defunct KASK-FM upon graduating high school and ended up at KMVR – Magic 105 and KOBE – News-Talk, where I eventually became Program Director and Operations Manager. While in college, I managed and DJ-ed on the campus radio station in Fort Kent, Maine, the now defunct WUFK-The New College Mix.  I worked in commercial and college radio for a combined total of 14 years. I have now been with EARS RADIO, doing a show 4 times per week,  for about 3 years.

Current Interests – A growing family meant choosing a career that paid more than radio, so I went to college and became a Teacher. I’m now in my 12th year of teaching and this year is my 6th year teaching 4th -graders.  I began to have some health problems last year and was told I needed to lose weight.  After trying several programs, I finally found one that worked. I was so impressed with the safe and rapid weight loss and my resulting improved health, that I became a Health-Coach for the company. I now help others to discover the same simple steps I used to lose weight and improve health and well-being. I love working with folks and seeing their progress. Musical Preferences: I love most all kinds of music, but have a special affinity to Soft Rock/Soft A/C  and American Standards/Easy Listening.  I also love 80s Country, 70s and 80s Pop, and Smooth Jazz.  Some of my favorite artists are John Conlee, Ricky Skaggs, The Carpenters, Robert Goulet,  Anne Murray, Roberta Flack, Rick Astley, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, Barry Mannilow, Celine Dion, Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Norah Jones, and Diana Krall. Sundays are spent with artists like Jim Brickman, Paul Cardall, and Hillary Weeks.  I also am an addict of conservative Talk Radio and enjoy listening to Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, and Michael Savage.

Personal: I enjoy country living with my wife and four children in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Yosemite National Park in Central California. We raise chickens, sheep, and an assortment of dogs and cats. I worked as a volunteer Missionary in Peru for two years where I learned to speak Spanish, met my wife, and gained an affinity for eating roasted guinea pig.
